Biography

Stan Milicic brings with him over 30 years of experience as a painter and professor of Fine Arts from the former Yugoslavia. Influenced by the Impressionist School, he established himself as a painter in the early 1970s. He won numerous awards for academic and pedagogical work throughout his colorful career.

His passion for painting is longstanding and evident in every aspect of his life. Stan began his teaching career after graduating from the College of Teachers, with a specialization in Visual Arts, at the University of Novi Sad (Serbia) in 1970. He taught Visual Arts and Art History and led students on state and federal Art competitions winning numerous awards and recognitions annually. Stan obtained a specialist degree in Visual Arts and Cultural Event Organization from the Faculty of Education at the University of Rijeka (Croatia) in 1984.

Alongside his pedagogical career, Stan served as a member of the board on a number of charitable organizations and committees and he often presided over provincial and federal juried art competitions. In 1979 he was named the Curator of the Art Studio with the National Gallery of Yugoslavian Portrait Art in Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) where he organized exhibits, operated the studio and held classes as part of the National Gallery Art Project.

Most of his original collection, amassed over the years, was lost as a result of turbulent political events of the early 1990’s with only a few representative pieces remaining in existence in private collections today. These are proudly displayed in the site’s gallery alongside his more recent work – dubbed The Revival.

Stan lives in Toronto. He is a loving husband, inspiring father and a proud grandfather-to-be.
